Julian Wright was one of those success stories you hear about all the time. You know, guy grows up with nothing and works his ass off to become something. By his early twenties he built his own corporate empire and was worth a ridiculous amount of money. He married Katie Dell, a model who was trying to start a movie career but never quite did when a year later she became pregnant with their first and only child.

Alexander James Wright was born on October 12th, 1986 with a silver spoon placed decisively in his mouth. His childhood was that of dreams. Anything and everything he wanted was his and at impressive speeds. Spoiled would have been an understatement. He was cultured in art history and had learned three different instruments (guitar, piano, and saxophone) by the age of fifteen. Going into high school, Alex had a core group of friends that he spent most of his time with. He started to date one of them, Nina Muñoz, senior year. There was just something about the girl that had a hold of him, she was one of the only people in the world that could keep his attention twenty four seven.

He went to college to work on a business degree on his father’s dime but he spent most of his time studying musical theory because though he was expected to carry on in the family business, Alex’s heart wasn’t into it. College was an eye opener for him. He started meeting all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. It taught him a lot about himself and how he perceived the world in contrast to how the world really was. He started to question a lot of things about his lifestyle.

Some people, maybe even most, dream about being rich. When you have little to no money, it sounds like the most fantastic thing in the world; like an answer to all your problems. And maybe for those people it is but for someone like Alex who grew up with tons of money, it had just become a burden. Being rich meant that no one told you the truth, only what you wanted to hear. It meant that you never really knew if someone was interested in you as a human being or if they were interested in you as an account balance. Mostly it meant that you never had to work hard for anything in life, that you could just coast by on whims and reckless abandon.

It might have been a little selfish and a tad ignorant but because of those things, Alex made the decision to give it all up, tell his parents he wasn’t going to be working in some corporate office for the rest of his life, and skip town. He was going to start a band with these two guys he met at a local club, guys who didn’t have any clue about his upbringing. The plan was simple; start over and earn any success that came his way. Alex asked Nina to come with him but that only caused a huge fight. In the end she told him no, that he was asking her to give up too much and maybe he was but the rejection still hurt. He left town without saying goodbye.

They stuck to the east coast that year. Started in the tip of Florida and slowly worked their way up to New York (avoiding Charlotte at all costs when passing through North Carolina). The clubs were small, and dirty, and paid in drink tickets more times than not. It was reinvigorating at first, the sudden dive into the grimy underbelly of the indie music scene but after a few months, the lack of definite progress, and all the traveling was starting to wear on Alex. By the end of that tour, he was emotionally and physically exhausted. He knew he couldn’t keep going on at that pace but he also was too stubborn to show up back at his parent’s house with his tail between his legs.

So when the band came back to Charlotte (deciding that they’d work at playing the scene there and recording an ep), Alex found himself on Nina’s doorstep. It was less awkward than he thought it was going to be but not by much. After a really long night of conversation, she agreed to let him stay at her place until he could figure out what to do next and he’s been sleeping on her couch ever since.
